A baby safety monitor is a device that has a transmitter, the part that sends sounds or video signals and a receiver; it allows parents and guardians to have eyes and ears on their children even when not physically around them. This is possible because the transmitter component which is placed close to the child is a either a microphone that detects sounds or a video camera that captures the child’s movements and activities, while the receiver component of the baby monitor is carried by the parent or guardian, it is a speaker or a tiny TV that allows access to the child from a distance.

The analog works on a radio frequency so it is possible for the user to pick up signals within the same bandwidth such as neighbors with the same baby monitor device and even wireless phone conversations. It is possible for them to hear you and vice versa. While the digital audio monitors allow less disturbances and better privacy. It works to scramble the sound signals while transmitting it to the receiver, in this way it is difficult for others to pick them up it also has broader range of reception.
The video type of baby monitor is more advanced, it send visual images, through a video camera, where the parents on the other side or at far distance can practically see the child’s movements. It is even more useful today with the collaboration of the computer and the internet. The parents can be away from home and still access the child’s activities through connecting the video in the internet. In fact, this technology is also used to watch the way babysitters take care of the babies and children, and there has been many testimonies of parents being grateful for the device because it made them discover their babysitters’ mistakes.
One of the developments of technology is an addition to these two types of monitor, which is the sensory baby monitor. This type is more sophisticated, it allows parents to know if the child is no longer moving, because it senses motion such as breathing. From the time limit of 20 seconds and up when it cannot detect even a single movement from the baby, it sends an alarm. The transmitter is placed close proximity to the baby to enable it to detect motion.
